Retraction/Removal of Kompressor, Alternative Compression Technique
Previous | Next Next

    Retraction/Removal of Kompressor

  • Remove the K-wire, if it is still in the screw. Next, insert the solid extraction driver is into the compression driver, in such a way that both drivers engage both parts of the Kompressor™ screw.
  • The knob on the compression driver is tightened, allowing the two drivers to work as one. The combined drivers are then turned counter-clockwise until the Kompressor™ is retracted or removed.

    Alternative Compression Technique

(Retracting only the leading portion of Kompressor™)

  • Ordinarily, compression is achieved by advancing the trailing portion of the Kompressor relative to the leading portion, using the compression driver. It is also possible to achieve compression by retracting the leading portion of the Kompressor™ relative to the trailing portion.
  • After initial placement of the Kompressor™ in the normal way and removal of the K-wire, the extraction driver may be used to retract the leading portion of the Kompressor™
  • The placement driver cannot be used, because the placement driver disengages from the Kompressor™ upon counter-clockwise rotation
