Use of Drill

  • The short cannulated drill (119546ND) attached on the quick coupling (129710ND) is used to prepare the location of the screw head. The protective sleeve (119552ND) must be used during this stage.
  • The short drill will be inserted in the sleeve before drilling. This allows to limit the depth of reaming due to marks on the drill.
  • When the drill is used perpendicular to the bone, the mark 90° must be flush to the extremity of the sleeve
  • When the drill has a 45° angulation, the mark 45° will be aligned with the extremity of the sleeve
  • It is only when there is a 30° orientation that the drill will be fully engaged in the protection sleeve
  • This allows for reaming only to a depth of 5 mm sufficient to prepare the location of the screw head

  • The countersink for the outer thread is prepared, the long drill (119571ND) is used to prepare the distal cortex for introduction of the screw
  • The use of this long drill is not recommended unless a bi-cortical fixation is required
  • This long drill is introduced over the K-wire left in place
  • It is graduated so that the drill depth can be read directly
  • The visible number nearest to the point of entry of the drill into the bone is the length of the buried part of the drill
